A small industry exists in the city including wood, iron and marble industry outside the city.The tehsil is subdivided into 27 Union Councils and is headquartered at the city of Jhelum.
Jhelum population is about 547,000 approx. The major profession of people is service in Armed Forces, hence they are generally disciplined and law abiding. A large number of people of dina are settled in foreign countries particularly Western Europe and Middle East. Main source of livelihood of the people is agriculture.

Jhelum in History
Dina is named after a saint Baba Dina Shaeed whose tomb lies near GT road in the Domeli Mohalla. There were Hindus and Sikhs before the partition. The city of Dina is the headquarters of the tehsil . In 1977, a municipal committee was established at Dina, but the town's status was changed to an administrative subdivision or tehsil of Jhelum District. This town is a birthplace of Sampooran Singh Kalra (born 18 August 1934), popularly known as Gulzar, an Indian poet, lyricist and film director, whose family moved to India after partition in 1947.

Rohtas Fort
It took eight years to built the fort, it was captured by Mughal emperor Humayun in 1555. Rohtas was also occasionally used for administrative purposes by the Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh after he captured it in 1825.

Main Places
Rohtas Fort is located near the city of Jhelum in Punjab, Pakistan. The fort lies on the historic GT road between the mountainous region of Afghanistan and the plains of Punjab. It was built under Afghan king Sher Shah Suri. This fort is about 4 km in circumference. The Mangla Dam is located on the Jhelum River about 30 km from Jhelum, it is the twelfth largest dam in the world. saint Baba Dina Shaeed tomb lies in domeli mohalla near GT road.

Tehsil Government Jhelum

The chief official in jhelum tehsil government is called Assistant Commissioner, then there is sub registrar, then there is revenue officer, then there is kanungos, at the end there is patwaris. Assistant commissioner controls, Revenue Administration, Price Control Magistracy, Coordination with different Departments, Monitoring of Devolved & Non-devolved Departments, Coordination with Police Department regarding maintenance of Law & Order, tasks.
Assistant commissioner also performs, Anti-Encroachment Functions, Disposal of Judicial cases, Monitoring of the Progress of Rev. Officers, Periodically checking of Revenue Record maintained by the Patwaris, Hearing of Service Appeals, Recruitment of Lower Revenue Field Staff, Revenue Reporting to the Higher Authorities.
Assistant commissioner has no authority to check police stations or to deal criminal issues properly.
• Monitoring and supervising the performance of government offices located in the tehsil and hold them accountable by reporting to the district government
• Preparing spatial plans for the tehsil including plans for land use and disseminate these plans for public enquiry
• Executing and managing development plans for improvement of municipal and infrastructure services
• Exercising control over land development by public and private sectors for agriculture, industry, commerce, residence, recreation, entertainment, transport, etc
• Enforcing laws, rules and bye-laws to ensure efficient and quality delivery of municipal services (anti-encroachment drives, affixing of sign-boards, etc)
• Maintaining data base and information system on services in the tehsil and provide public access to it on nominal charges
• Collecting taxes, fines and penalties provided under the Punjab Local Government Act
• Organising sports events, cultural fairs, recreational carnivals, leisure activities, cattle markets
• Coordinating and supporting municipal functions amongst village and neighbourhood councils
• Regulating markets, issuing licenses, granting permissions as well as imposing penalties against violations
• Developing and managing schemes, including site development, in collaboration with district government
• Formulating strategies for infrastructure development, improvement in delivery of services and implementation of laws
• Preparing and presenting reports on the performance of municipal administration in tehsil council at least twice a year
• Calling for quarterly reports from tehsil based offices of government, presenting them to tehsil council and forwarding
Headed by a union nazim, each union council has 13 elected members or councillors. In addition to four male and two female members elected directly, there are two male and two female representatives of the labour, a minority member, a union nazim and his deputy known as union naib nazim. Beside elected members, there are several government employees and functionaries in every union council, who report to the secretary of the union council. The latter is a civil servant appointed by the state.
The territory of a union council or village council is usually part of a tehsil (a district subdivision).
